Friday was such a beautiful day for getting the lawn mowed. Diane arrived around 10:30am. I had started earlier. There were sections where it has not really grown enough to mow. Across the road was the thickest. I am hoping to get on my Zero turn this week and just keep the grass mowed on the knoll so people can view the lake as they drive by. The geese are happy as are the Eagles and Beavers because the lake is full. Like in other years, the geese fly over the house in the morning and then they make an evening flight. I do hope the beavers continue to stay.

Don’t you just love computers” Yikes last week I had a terrible time trying to send out my column. People just could not open it. It told me I was unable to download. I noticed a few telephone trucks in the area for a couple of days. I did get in touch with my computer guy, and he said he would check it out this week. However, this Monday morning I went on it just for the heck of it and sent it to a couple of people. They were able to open it fine. I then remembered that when I was watching tv suddenly, the phone companies station came over the tv blacked out the screen and there were their advertisements. Then that would go out and the hallmark channel came back on. So…. I am guessing a problem with the phone company. I have phone, intranet and tv service with my phone company. I find that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it as sometimes it fixes itself, or just wait be patient and just maybe the phone company will get it resolved.

The Annual Meeting of the Gilboa Rural Cemetery will take place on Saturday, May 9, at 10:00am at the Cemetery located at 232 Wyckoff Road here in Gilboa. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

On Sunday, May 3, at 2:00pm the Jefferson Historical Society will have guest speaker George McCoy. He will be speaking on “The Life and Ancestry of Colonel Stephen Judd of Jefferson New York”.  Recent research tells a surprising story. Judd is considered to be the Father of Jefferson which the Jefferson Historical Society’s is named Judd Hall in his honor.

The Gilboa Republican Town Caucus was held on Friday evening at the Town Hall. Gilboa Town Supervisor Alicia Terry will be on the ballot for re-election in November.

Lauri Jones tells me the Gilboa Museum will be opening for the season on May 23. They now have additional parking and a drive around which is “Jerry’s Way” in memory of Gerry Stoner former President of the Gilboa Museum. The addition was made possible with a donation from his wife Ellen. I will keep everyone posted on this opening closer to the date.

In attendance at the 4th Annual Conesville Historical Society meeting at Gavin’s Restaurant in Cornwallville on Sunday were over 50+ members and guests.  President Kim welcomed everyone as they enjoyed before dinner snacks at the beginning of the meeting. Members voted on the official committee. Bernadette Gavin served up a delicious dinner of Roast Beef, Chicken, Ziti, Green Beans, potatoes, tossed salad, and Rolls. Following the dinner Kim introduced guest speaker Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley. His talk along with a slide show was on Native people who traveled through the Catskill Mountains. Total silence filled the room as he spoke. Everyone was so interested in what he had to speak about. Aloud applause was heard throughout the room when he concluded his talk.   Questions followed his talk. John answered all of them graciously. Desserts of Apple and Peach Crumb pie were served. As we were heading to the food table a gal from Windham walked up to me. She wanted to let me know she enjoys reading my Gilboa/Conesville News every week. I was ever so pleased as I thanked her. It was a delightful way to spend the day. I had picked up Pastor Dottie at the Conesville Fire Hall for the event. She thoroughly enjoyed the day as well. On our way home I made a couple of side trips so she could view our beautiful mountains and so much more scenery. Some places she had never been to and was simply delighted to sit on the passenger side to view everything all around her.
