BOVINA - Bovina Town Council moved forward with logging of the 64.60 acres of land surrounding the transfer station at the March 10th meeting. Councilmember Dominic Gullow reached out to three foresters recommended by and certified through the Watershed Agricultural Council (WAC). The board hired Jim Curtis of Central NY Forestry.

WAC foresters are certified to minimize water-quality damage and erosion, and to ensure the property's regeneration.

Curtis will receive 15% of the revenue from logging. He will mark trees for cutting using a ribbon.

Town officials agreed to exclude areas behind Yankee Road to address constituents' concerns.

Councilmembers approved CHIPS expenditures for 2026 seasonal road repairs.

The council paid the following bills for February: general $8,551.39, lighting $418.57, water $2,885.90, septic $4,208.44, highway $6,405.83.

The purchase or rental of a new roller for the highway department was tabled until April.

Average water usage in February was 15,038 gallons per day. The average is around 8,000 to 9,000; a leak caused the increase, reported Rossley.

The code enforcement officer issued one new home permit, one c/o letter, conducted eight inspections, four in-office meetings, and three training sessions in February.

Recently elected Councilmember John Ciccone reported being impressed by the highway department under Weber’s leadership after touring the facility and reviewing paperwork. “He is doing a great job and doing great things for the community,” said Ciccone.

Weber reported issues with the clothing company that supplies and cleans highway uniforms and mats. He said they often have missing items and are billed incorrectly. Weber will explore offering an employee clothing allowance and terminating the service.

The next regular town board meeting is scheduled Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m.
