On October 10, 2025, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies Nicholas Empara and Brenden Cairns pulled over a vehicle in the Village of Delhi after witnessing it run over the curb when leaving the Speedway parking lot, then crossing the yellow line multiple times and speeding within the Village limits.  Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered on the driver, identified as Tara Mahoney, and indicated positive clues for intoxication when Mahoney failed the tests.

District Attorney Smith commended the work of Deputies Empara and Cairns on this case. “Impaired drivers will not be tolerated.  They are putting everyone in danger when they decide to drive while under the influence.  My office will continue to work with law enforcement to remove impaired drivers from our roads.”
