District Attorney Shawn Smith and the Delaware
County District Attorney’s office want to recognize
Lt. Nate McCarthy of the New York State Police BCI
for his dedicated service to Delaware County and
the surrounding area.
Lt. McCarthy grew up in neighboring Sullivan
County. He began his career as a Trooper with the
NYSP in 2012 in Margaretville. He spent several
years in Oneonta and was promoted to Investigator
in 2017. In 2018 he was promoted to Sergeant in
Investigations. In early 2025 he became the
Lieutenant of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation
(BCI). Much of Lt. McCarthy’s career, particularly
since he became an investigator, was spent doing
work in narcotics.
ADA Rachael Collins said “Lt. McCarthy is an active partner with the District Attorney’s Office in an ongoing, high-profile investigation.” According to ADA Collins, “we are fortunate to have him. He is committed to our county and to protecting the safety of our community.’”
DA Smith says of McCarthy “Lieutenant McCarthy is an honest, hardworking and dedicated member of the law enforcement community. He’s been a tremendous partner for us over the years on a variety of cases, particularly those involving removing narcotics from the streets and protecting vulnerable children.”
