STAMFORD – The Stamford Village Board seated a new trustee and made official appointments and designations, during their annual meeting Tuesday. They also set a public hearing on the proposed budget and provided the oaths of office to appointments to the village planning board and zoning board of appeals.
Clifford Curley took his oath of office as the newly elected trustee, winning the recent election by write-in votes. With two trustees absent, he provided a quorum.
Official appointments included: Sandra Collins, clerk/treasurer; Richard Briscoe, code enforcement officer; Charles Ferris, tax assessor and Karen Cuccinello, village historian. Legal services will be provided by Joan Bleikamp for loan-related items, such as bridges, blighted buildings, etc. With Keegan Coughlin providing legal service for 60-64 Main St. litigation.
Named to the village planning board were, the following: Bill Lander, chair; Mary Skinner, secretary, vice chair; Don Ackerman, Aree Bray and Leeman Markee.
Named to the Zoning Board of Appeals were, the following: David Elbaum, Glenn Graves and Ed Stammel, with Robert Kennedy as alternate.
Village meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Stamford Village Hall, with workshops and special meetings held as necessary. The annual meeting will be held on the first Monday in April. The regular March meeting will be held on the third Wednesday during an election year. The planning board will meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m..
Official designations, included: NBT Bank and Wayne Bank, official depositories: The Mountain Eagle and Walton Reporter, official newspapers; WRIP, official radio station.
Several policies were also approved and continued, with no changes.
A public hearing on the proposed budget is set for April 21. Sandra Collins, treasurer, said the tax levy is $629,511 up 5.6 percent and it only contains the basic needs. She said there is no gravy in the general budget. The proposed budget exceeds the allowable tax cap. Copies of the proposed budget will be posted on the village's website. There will also be a public hearing on the same night, regarding a proposed $100 shut off fee that will be charged in an effort to discourage property owners from waiting to receive the shutoff notice before paying their water bills. The hearings will be held at 6:30 and 6:45 with the regular meeting set for 7 p.m.
