On February 13, 2025, Trooper Siobhan Carey of the New York State Police responded to Mountainside Creamery in the Town of Roxbury regarding a report that several items had been stolen. Signs of forced entry were discovered. The items taken included steel press plates, copper wire rolls, and yellow brass solids.

Troopers noted that a former employee had stolen copper wire in November of 2024. On that same day, Trooper Carey interviewed the owner of a local scrap yard and obtained information that items matching those stolen from the Creamery had recently been scrapped there by the defendant. Shane Johnson later made admissions to stealing this property, valued at over three thousand dollars, when he pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

The Honorable John L. Hubbard, Delaware County Court Judge, noted that the defendant had no prior criminal history, and sentenced the defendant to 6 months of incarceration to be followed by 5 years of felony probation supervision. The defendant was remanded to the Delaware County Correction Facility to begin serving his sentence. If the defendant violates the terms and conditions of his probation, he faces the possibility of being re-sentenced to 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in state prison.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith commended the efforts of law enforcement in securing the conviction. “I want to thank Trooper Carey of the New York State Police for their diligent work on this case.”
