DELHI- Delaware County District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced that Joseph J. Hahn, 30, of Walton, N.Y. pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree- Possession of Methamphetamine with the intention of selling it, on April 13, and was sentenced to 4 years in state prison to be followed by two years of post-release supervision.

On January 27, 2026, Delaware County Sheriff Deputy Justin Mohr initiated a traffic stop in the Village of Walton. After stopping the vehicle, Deputy Mohr determined that the driver, Joseph Hahn, had a revoked license. Deputy Mohr subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle wherein he found multiple baggies containing methamphetamine. The search also revealed scales, funnels, plastic packaging material and other paraphernalia commonly associated with the sale of illegal narcotics.

The case was presented to a Grand Jury on February 5, 2026, and the defendant was indicted for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance it the Third Degree, a Class B Felony.  After initially pleading not guilty, the defendant appeared in Delaware County Court on April 13, 2026, and pleaded guilty. The defendant admitted that he was in possession of over 1/8 ounce of methamphetamine while in the Village of Walton on January 27. The defendant further admitted that he intended to sell a portion of that methamphetamine.

After pleading guilty, the Honorable John L. Hubbard sentenced the defendant to 4 years in state prison to be followed by 2 years of post-release supervision. The defendant was then remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff to begin serving his sentence.

District Attorney Shawn Smith commended Deputy Justin Mohr and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for their thorough investigation into this case. “As a result of Deputy’s Mohr’s experience and attention to detail, what started as a simple traffic stop resulted in a drug dealer being sent to state prison. My office will continue to partner with law enforcement in the effort to remove every illegal drug dealer from our community.”
