BERNE — The Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs surged to their first win of the season on Friday, utilizing a massive early lead to defeat the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs 15-5. After starting the year with ten consecutive losses, the visiting squad found their rhythm at the plate and on the mound to secure the milestone victory.

The offense was ignited by freshman center fielder Ty Gunzinger, who put together a perfect afternoon by going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Senior second baseman Elijah Barr and junior first baseman Alex Hertzler also provided significant power to the lineup, each recording a double as part of an 11-hit attack. Senior Aiden Carr was a constant threat on the basepaths, reaching safely four times with two hits and two walks while scoring three runs and stealing two bases.

Cobleskill-Richmondville established dominance in the opening frames, plating seven runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Sophomore shortstop Devin Covey and junior outfielder Fred Sperbeck each drove in two runs during the barrage. Junior catcher Landon Huslander also contributed to the scoring effort with two RBIs of his own. Despite some defensive resistance from Berne-Knox-Westerlo, the Bulldogs capitalized on six errors by the home team, which led to ten unearned runs.

On the mound, senior Matt Gunzinger delivered a gritty, complete-game performance. Over seven innings of work, he struck out seven batters and allowed five runs on nine hits to earn the win. Senior outfielder Aiden Joslin added to the team effort by scoring a run after being hit by a pitch. While Berne-Knox-Westerlo attempted a comeback with three runs in the fifth inning led by E. Bates and G. Lefkaditis, the senior-led Bulldogs defense remained firm to close out the contest.
