SCHOHARIE COUNTY — Why doesn't Bigfoot like Schoharie? We have creeks, mountains, caves, farmlands, and orchards, yet the world's "hide and seek champion" seems to always bypass our area, according to online trackers. The Bigfoot Mapping Project offers two options for exploring and reporting Bigfoot activity. The recently added "Bigfoot Map Pro" is a dynamic map where users can click on reported sightings to determine what type of sighting it was based on users' reports (which can also be done through the map), for instance, whether it was a sighting, an audible indication that a sasquatch was nearby, or footprints. Users can also indicate the sasquatch's sex and provide information about the encounter. "I assumed it was female because I know they are often scene [sic] gazing upon familys [sic]," reads one report near Coeymans Hollow. The "Classic Map" works similarly, though with some variations.

Now, as the maps rely on user reports and documented cases, they are not comprehensive. The Bigfoot Society YouTube page recently posted a members-only video titled "Multiple Bigfoot Sightings in Gilboa, New York," which requires a paid subscription to view. "As the story unfolds, the witness connects his experience to later Bigfoot sightings, unexplained tracks, and eyewitness reports across upstate New York, including West Fulton, nearby state forests, and areas surrounding the Gilboa Reservoir. Massive 14-inch footprints, linear trackways, strange nighttime activity, and whispered accounts from lifelong locals paint a picture of an active Sasquatch corridor," reads the description. Certainly, the areas of Gilboa and West Fulton would seem like ideal locations for a "Sasquatch corridor." Yet the Bigfoot Mapping Project's maps tell the story of a "Sasquatch avoidance corridor" in which Bigfoot seems to steer clear of the Schoharie Valley. (There's a report from Westmere for Pete's sake!)

The mischievous old fella is nothing if not enigmatic.
