A new race car show has popped up on the schedule. The Southern Tier Speed Showcase will be held at the Southside Mall in Oneonta on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8. The show will feature cars from every area division, from go-karts, motorcycles, and full-size cars to race tracks and racing series. The Southside Mall is located just off Exit 15 of I-88 at 5006 NY-23, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820. Elmo’s Speed & Supply and JAM Performance & Consulting’s Race Car Knowledge Seminar will be held shortly on Saturday, March 21, from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. This year’s event will feature a mix of new and previous presenters. Listed so far are Bob Slack of Bicknell Racing Products, Jason Leindecker of Leindecker Engines, and driver Ryan Susice. Participants will partake in detailed discussion and skill sharing. The admission fee includes breakfast, lunch, and raffles at $120 per person or $450 for a group of four. Albany-Saratoga Speedway has added Mike Perrotte to the staff as Race Control Director. Perrotte has a background as Super DIRTcar Series Director, track promoter, driver, and technical inspector.

Halmar-Friesen Racing announced their lineup of crew chiefs for the 2026 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. This year will be the team's first full season as a two-truck team. Dustin Dunn has been promoted to the position of crew chief for the No. 52 Toyota Tundra TRD driven by Stewart Friesen. Jimmy Villeneuve will serve as crew chief of the No. 62, which will feature a rotating list of drivers, beginning with John Hunter Nemechek at Daytona on February 13.

Former DIRTcar Series Sportsman division champion Andrew Buff will be making his Big Block Modified debut in the Federated Auto Parts-DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway in Florida, February 11-14.

Fonda Speedway announced a new partnership this week with Betz, Rossi, Bellinger, & Stewart (BRBS) Family Funeral Homes. As community partners with New York State locations in Amsterdam, Fultonville, and Gloversville, they have embarked on an "All-in" widespread marketing presence at Fonda Speedway in 2026. The multi-faceted partnership includes primary sponsorship of the Jackson Gill-driven No. 06 Troyer chassis in the Amsterdam Truck Center Modified division weekly at the Track of Champions. The 23-year-old Plessis, N.Y. driver brings North Country success to Fonda's Saturday programs this season.

They will also be the presenting sponsors of the Saturday, August 1, Fonda Speedway-Lebanon Valley Speedway Challenge featuring the Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds, 358-Modifieds, Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks, Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman, and Fonda Fair 4-Cylinders. Signage will be placed on the speedway's front stretch for all 2026 events including the iconic Fonda 200 in September.

Fonda Speedway promoter Brett Deyo spoke at the annual Montgomery County Agricultural Society meeting on Wednesday night at the Fonda-Fultonville High School. With 2026 being the 75th anniversary year for weekly racing at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds half-mile clay oval, drivers and fans can expect to see more improvements and exciting entertaining activities at the Track of Champions. The 75th anniversary season will also bring special events and guests to race nights. Utica-Rome Speedway will host the Empire Street Stock Series.

The Northeast Dirt Modified Museum and Hall of Fame in Weedsport, N.Y. announced their class of 2026 inductees. The 34th class includes drivers Tim (T-Mac) McCreadie, Mitch Gibbs, and Bobby Wilkins. Receiving special awards will be car owner Chris Larsen, mechanic/crew chief John Sine, and promoter/DIRTcar official Mike Perrotte, who will receive the Outstanding Contribution to Auto Racing Award. Journalist Ron Hedger will receive the Andrew Fusco Media Award, and race track safety team leader Terri Mohrman will receive the Outstanding Woman in Racing Award. The induction and recognition ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2026, inside the museum located on the Weedsport Speedway grounds at 1 Speedway Drive, Weedsport, N.Y. The program is free and open to the public, with pre- and post-ceremony receptions.

Northeast Dirt Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman divisions will be racing this week in Florida at the All-Tech Raceway near Lake City. Dirt Track Digest TV will present the Showdown in the Sunshine State on February 4-7. Next week will find the DIRTcar Series at Volusia Speedway Park, February 11-14.

The Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club welcomed racers and fans to the great northeast on a cold and windy February day. Sunday saw a respectable turnout of hard water racers on the frozen surface of Peck's Lake, just north of Gloversville. The staging area had license plates from Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. Some cars were specifically designed for ice racing and trailered to the event, while others were street legal and driven to the event, raced, and then driven home.

Former Fonda Speedway Modified track champion Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury received the award for most miles traveled (13,000) during the 2025 RUSH Late Model Series season. In putting the effort in, Drellos also earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Unfortunately, one driver has had to cancel their plans to travel to Florida. Felix Roy and family suffered a fire at the headquarters of the family business and their race car shop in Napierville, Quebec. In his statement in regard to the fire, Roy did mention that sadly there was a family friend inside of the shop at the time. Roy won a few titles in 2025, including Airborne Park Speedway 358 Modified champion, Albany-Saratoga Speedway 358 Modified champion, Devil's Bowl Speedway 358 Modified champion, and Big Block Canadian Series champion.

The NASCAR Cup Series was to begin its 2026 season with "The Clash" on Monday at the Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. However, a historic winter storm blew in and postponed the event until tentatively Wednesday.
