BROOME — On Friday, April 3rd at approximately 10:19 P.M., Sheriff's Deputies responded to State Route 145 in the Town of Broome for a motor vehicle accident. Deputies arrived and found the operator and two children in the vehicle were not injured. While investigating the accident, deputies observed that the operator of the vehicle was displaying signs of impairment. After being evaluated by EMS, the operator, Erray Vanbuckly, 53, of Amsterdam, was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. Mr. Vanbuckly was transported to the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office for arrest processing where he refused to submit to a chemical test. Mr.Vanbuckly was arraigned in Schoharie County Centralized Arraignment and released to appear in the Town of Broome Court at a later date. Mr. Vanbuckly has been charged with the following offenses:
- Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor)
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated - Leandra's Law (Felony)
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child - (Misdemeanor)
- Other Vehicle and Traffic Law offenses
The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Livingstonville Volunteer Fire Department, Middleburgh Ambulance and Schoharie County EMS.
Mr. Vanbucly is presumed innocent of these charges until proven guilty in a court of law.
