The new Summit dump truck
Summit snow plows were out at 5am on St. Patrick's Day, now the only snow left is the dirty old snow piles left by the plows. Summit Lake is all melted around the edges so ice fishing is a done deal for the season.
The town of Summit added a new dump truck to the fleet on March 20th. The 2025 Western Star was originally ordered in the fall of 2022 and was delayed due to numerous supply chain issues related to the Covid 19 shut downs. Photo of the truck from Highway Superintendent Jim Dibble.
Stopped by the Summit Community Inc. program at the Summit firehouse March 20 to see Patty and the Mygrain for some nice music and conversation. Photo attached
It’s always so sad to drive by where the Lakeview House was but it’s rather worse now as there are not one but two RV’s on the property.
On March 23 there were a few cars at the old Summit General Store, probably inspecting the situation.
Got a late lunch at Mama Maria’s in Stamford last week. Food was yummy and their garlic knots were incredible. They are open noon – 9pm Thursday thru Sunday.

History
May 23, 1912 Jefferson Courier- Summit- The recent copious showers have greatly benefited the meadows in this section. - Our teacher, Miss Hazel Hand, passed Sunday last with friends at Charlotteville. - Dr. M. D. Lipes of Cobleskill was a professional caller in town. - Byron Proper of Jefferson was a visitor here, the guest of Olof Boughton. - Quinn Shafer and family of Charlotteville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Palmer. - Chas. Boughton is nursing a sore leg caused by an injury to the member while at work. - Fred Morris, who is conducting a clothing sale at Charlotteville, was in town, shaking hands with his many friends. - Mrs. A. D. Palmer has opened a bakery at her home in this village and is ready to supply the trade at prices which will please. Just remember, that homemade baking is far better than any other. - The steam roller with a man to operate the same arrived in town. It is a monstrous machine, weighing nearly eleven tons and if properly handled it ought to accomplish a great deal of good in the way of building roads.
