March is here! Getting closer to Spring and warmer weather. To beat some Winter blues, my husband and I took our boys to see Larry The Cable Guy at the Palace Theater on March 1. They had a very good time. Larry The Cable Guy has been in the comedy business for 38 years now. He shared that his birthday is February 17, and he just turned 62 years old. I enjoy listening to comedians; I usually leave with a smile on my face.
With March, I get to wish a new set of people a Happy Birthday: my godsister Nikki, my brother Ron, Hayleigh May, Raelynn, Brook'Lynn, and Jaymeson! May you all have great days!
My small business Spotlight this week is one owned by Rob Himme. ZRB Welding is about to hit three years—and Robert Himme is still the go-to for anything that needs a torch. Steel beams, aluminum frames, stainless tanks: they weld it all. Industrial plants count on them for quick maintenance fixes, while local farmers bring in tractors, plows, and trailers that'd otherwise sit rusting. No big speeches—just reliable work, done right.
This past Saturday my husband and I took our pet pigs to Sentinel in Amsterdam. The folks there love to pet them, feed them, and ask questions about them. We have 8 house trained animals that could go and do visits like this. We took Wilbur and his nephew Smalls. They are both KuneKune pigs, native to New Zealand. They were almost extinct in the 1980s. But a lady took a pair to breed in California, and another pair went to Canada. The breed is doing much better now. They are a low to the ground, long haired pig. Very docile and love attention! We have been raising this breed since September 2020. Our very first house trained pig was Wilbur. We got him at five weeks old because mom was not caring for him.
He will be six years old on August 27. Smalls was born here. He was our very first litter of piglets, born March 27, 2021.
The town of Seward is looking to hire one full time driver. If you have a CDL and are looking for work, this could be the job for you! Or if you would like to do a career in this area without a CDL, they may be able to train you. Reach out to Chad Evan, Highway Superintendent.
On March 3, my husband and I were able to attend the Ag Solutions & Expo at the college. This was a great expo to learn more about farming, loans, grants, laws and more. There was many months of work behind the scenes. If you get the chance to attend an expo, you may learn way more than you thought you would.
May your March bring you brighter days!
