Lots of snow fell in Flat Creek Sunday evening. It continued to fall all day on Monday. Probably 5-7” and snowed steadily. It reminds me of many years ago when every winter was just like it is happening now. So far, the wind is not blowing very hard. From what the weather forecasters are saying that could change by nightfall. The snow is very light which when the wind kicks in I am sure there will be lots of drifts. With the evergreens along my lake and the snow on the frozen lake it makes for a beautiful picture. I am hoping the sun will come out so I can capture the beauty of it all on camera. Now we need to get ready for more snow to come this Tuesday evening. Just think Spring is around the corner. With that in mind, coming up in May at the Gilboa Museum’s opening season will feature an “Off the Wall” art show. More on this event as we get closer to the date.

What an exciting USA/Canada Hockey game it was on Sunday. Can you believe Jack Hughes gets a few teeth knocked out by a hockey stick and then goes back into the game to score a goal in a few seconds of overtime. When the coach put him back in, he turned to the man standing next to him and said, “he is going to score”. Congratulations to all those who medaled, including the girls’ hockey team which was another exciting event. For those who did not get medals, I am sure they will be working harder for the next winter game to come
One day last week while having coffee at Tracy’s Café in Grand Gorge, I had the chance to visit with Kelly Smith from Conesville. Knowing Kelly for a good many years. One can just imagine how that conversation went. We talked and laughed throughout that visit. I noticed he placed some Avon books on the counter. Apparently, his wife Susan sells Avon which I was very happy to learn. If you bought Avon in the past, I am sure Susan can help you with a favorite item of your choice or maybe even something new. Susan can be reached on 607-588-6177 for more information.
How many of you remember when you lived and worked on a farm you had a pet animal? Well, that is what Lee Hudson from the Gilboa Museum would like to know. She is working on an exhibit “Labor of Love” that will feature Gilboa’s animals, a look at the many important rolls animals played in Gilboa families, especially the farm families. Beginning with the first agricultural statistics in 1850, the exhibit will illustrate these animals *in action*. The exhibit will also show the affectional bonds between these animals and *their people*. What she is looking for are images showing animals at work and playing with their families. Livestock for sure and other domesticated animals. The exhibit will probably be limited to animals even though she knows Gilboans have domesticated birds, etc. So... if you are interested, this is a great opportunity for you to bring back your younger years on the farm with a beloved animal. For more information call Lee at 607-652-5075 or e-mail hudsonlee2@aol.com

Back in Time: Another one of Clyda’s stories from Honey in the Horn: March 17: I finally made the necessary phone call, and the self-cleaning oven is cleaning again. It’s been on the fritz all winter simply because I put off making that call. We bestirred ourselves and took a sample of water from the deep well to the lab. The report came back, all is fine. Euphoria! The water is safe to drink. Most of the windows are finally clean, inside and out again. That involved climbing over bales of hay, balancing on a pile of bricks left from the fireplace repair last fall, holding for dear life to a hinge with one hand, while washing glass with the other. It wasn’t easy.
