Happy Easter! May you and your family be Blessed on this special day.

I arrived at the Grand Gorge Fire house around 1:30pm Sunday after church. I had to park in front of Jackie Briggs salon as the Bank parking lot, Sunoco station, Mikes Garage and the Fire house parking lots were filled. Why? Because a Fundraiser was going on in the fire house for David Lebel. Walking into the building dining hall there were tables upon tables of raffle baskets, gift certificates and so much more. It was totally amazing how hundreds of people turned out for this fundraiser to support David as he goes through brain cancer at Albany Med. I picked up my BBQ Chicken Dinner which I decided to sit at a table and watch all the people coming and going as I ate a delicious meal. The Grand Gorge Fireman surely know how to do a great BBQ with all the fixings, drinks, desserts which included a huge bake sale.  I understand that five hundred tickets were sold for the BBQ. I got to visit with Davids family and so many more that were in attendance. As I walked about the raffle tables, I could not help but notice that just about every cup in front of a basket was full. Oh, my what a blessing to know just how much people care about helping this local young man.  All proceeds went to him and his two children.  Special thanks to all the volunteers, firemen, neighbors and friends for doing such an excellent job setting everything in motion. Not only was this event a success, but we are also praying for David’s illness to be even much more of a success. God bless you, David.

A special Gilboa Town Board meeting was held this past Monday at noon. This meeting was about the county closing one part of Flat Creek Road. I will keep everyone posted as to what the result of meetings, repair, opening etc. will be in future columns.

Have you given any thought to answering Lee Hudson about her “Labor of Love” favorite animal you had as a child. Perhaps there are still some people who grew up on a farm and had one. Lee would love to do a display featuring those animals you named and loved in the Gilboa Museum.  I know even some grownups had names/pictures for some animals, especially those you thought so much of. For more information Lee can be reached at hudsonlee2@aol.com or 607 652 5075.

One day last week when it got into the 70’s I decided to get the stone along the flower bank by the driveway taken care of. With the heavy winter snow, it tips the scalloped stone I have along the bottom edge of the flower bank. Oh boy, that was a chore. Moving along I thought I should quit and finish it the next day. Being stubborn I decided to just get it all done in one day. Of course, instead of bending down near the stone, I stood up, bent over as I pulled the stone out and reset them. Well, don’t you know I was kind of exhausted by late afternoon as I got back in the house. I paid for it as evening drew near with aches and you name it while watching TV. I reminded myself, oh well, aches and pains will go away, however I would not have to worry about doing that job again until next year. Since that warm day, the weather has turned a lot colder with rain expected all this coming week.

I was told that the Easter Egg hunt in Conesville was a huge success. The field next to the Fire house had lots of kids running about picking up their treasure of so many eggs and putting them in their basket. The eggs were filled with candy inside which was such a delight for the kids. I don’t know if anyone still colors hard boiled eggs. I enjoy doing it.
