Saturday afternoon I was very sorry to learn that Kenny Clark had passed away. Kenny was known for his fantastic food at Clark’s restaurant here in Gilboa. Kenny was a 1959 graduate from GCCS.  Pastor Dottie Morris will be conducting a funeral service for Kenny on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Gilboa Methodist Church located on 990V here in Gilboa. Calling hours will be at the church from 12noon to 2:00pm with the funeral from 2:00-2:30pm.  Immediately following the funeral all are invited for fellowship at the Conesville Fire Hall.  Condolences to his family.

I also learned this past Monday that Peggy Lee of Conesville passed away. Peggy was 91 years young. What a blessing she was. Condolences to her family.

On Sunday, March 22, following 10:30am worship service at Flat Creek Baptist Church, there will be a luncheon in the church hall. We welcome all to come and join us.

The Clothes Closet event is set for Saturday, March 21, from 10am-1:00pm at the Gilboa Town Hall. If you have good, clean items of clothing, shoes, pocketbooks etc. you can drop them off during the Town Clerk’s hours. Last year’s event was quite successful. Remember all items are free. All you need to do is find something of your choice.

The weather certainly changed very fast this past week. One day in the seventies and two days later down to freezing with snow flurries in the air. People out and about in shorts and then bundling up in winter clothes once more. It sure has been a crazy winter/spring season. It has not stopped the Robins from coming to Flat Creek. Saturday afternoon the lawn across the road held lots of those guys with their orange breasted chests. I was ever so happy to see them. They all looked healthy and surprisingly plump. Hopefully that is a good sign.

If you are planning on attending the NYPA’s events on March 21 photos with the Easter Bunny it will take place at their Visitor’s center and not at Minekill State Park.

The Conesville Mtn. Top seniors will be meeting has been canceled for Thursday of this week.

Back in Time: “Old Gilboa” (as written) Dr. Benjamin Fanning was born at Strykersville, NY 12 April 1837: is a physician and resides in Gilboa, N.Y.  He is not practicing, however, at present, but is Assistant Postmaster there. He followed farming until a year or two after marriage. He then studied medicine under the instruction of his father, Dr. Nelson Fanning, one of the leading physicians in the state. He was at Burlington, Vt. Attending a course of lectures when the Civil War broke out: on returning home about 1, July 1861, he enlisted as private in Company B, 4th New York Heavy Artillery, but being unable to endure the hardships of a soldier’s life was honorably discharged after a few months’ service. He then resumed the study of medicine, and completed his course at Berkshire Medical College, Pittsfield, Mass, in the Fall of 1863. He immediately commenced the practice of his profession at Gilboa, N.Y., afterwards removing to Conesville, where he continued to practice until 1892, when, on account of poor health, he gave up practicing entirely. In the Spring of 1893, he again moved back to Gilboa and was appointed Assistant Postmaster. (This item was taken from my Old Gilboa loose leaf book that was given to me by Rose (Miller) Mace)
