GREENE COUNTY — One of my favorite things in this world is music. From an early age, all I ever wanted to be was a singer. I love to sing… unfortunately, the only person who really enjoys my singing is me.
So instead of chasing a record deal, I chase live music. I love going out and seeing local bands who are actually living the dream I once had.
We’ve got a ton of great local bands around here, and honestly, which one I go see usually depends on my mood. But there’s one band that always stands out to me—and that band is Geezer.
I remember about 3 or 4 years ago, I was at Medusafest in the Town of Medusa. They had a Battle of the Bands going on, and I was helping emcee the event, making announcements and doing my thing. That’s when I met this really cool guy named Tommy—turns out, he was the lead singer of Geezer.
From the first song they played, I knew two things: 1, They were going to win, and 2,
There was something different about these guys and this band.
Now like I said, we’ve got a lot of talented bands in this area—but Geezer has that extra something. Some people call it the X-factor… I call it “the vibe.”
Because the second they start playing, it’s not just a band playing music—it’s a full-blown party.
You don’t just listen… you end up staying longer than you planned, maybe having one more drink than you should, and then suddenly it’s last call and you still don't want to go home, you just want to hear them keep playing the greatest rock and classic sounds of the 70's through the 90s.
Geezer officially started in June of 2020—right in the middle of the pandemic, when most of us were sitting around arguing on Facebook.
Tommy, who used to be in a band called Mid Life Crisis, and had taken a break from music after that band ended. But like a lot of us during that time, he got bored—and that itch to rock came back hard.
So a new band started forming. The only problem? They didn’t have a name.
While they were trying to figure it out, Tommy’s daughter joked,
“You’re past midlife crisis… now you’re a Geezer!” And just like that—boom—band name solved. Honestly, some of the best ideas come from being roasted by your kids.
Their slogan says it all:
“Not young, not dead… somewhere after a midlife crisis.”
The band members —Tommy, Peter, Earl, and Todd—all come from the New York Helderberg Hilltown area. These days, they’re playing everywhere all over the 518—community concerts, carnivals, big festivals, and my personal favorite place to catch them: local bars, where that vibe really comes alive.
Geezer might not be packing stadiums (yet), but they are packing dance floors, bar stools, and local community parks with people having a great time—young, old, and everyone in between. And honestly? That right there… that’s the real Rock & Roll dream.
