Well it's upstate NY and we had a Blizzard. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it was enough to cause some chaos. Many people were out there working long hours, to get the roads clear and keep us safe. To all of them I say "Thank You". Now I was playing on the internet.
There were definitely lots of stories and things going on this week, but the one Story that really caught my attention was on the Catskill Community Board (on Facebook). I am a member of many community boards in our area, but the Catskill one is one of my favorites . The board is run by Dave who can be a little strict at times. But he has kept the board running really well for many years now.
On Sunday before the Storm hit, a Father took his young son to the Catskill Walmart to stock up on snow snacks. The son brought with him his best friend, a 7 year old Dinosaur named "Rexy".
Many of you out there who have kids, know what it's like, your kid has that one item that they just love more than anything. It could be a stuffed animal like Rexy, or maybe a blanket, or who knows what. I am sure many of you reading this, had an item you always needed as a kid to sleep with (some you still may).
Well at some point during the shopping trip, Rexy wandered off on his own and got left behind at Walmart. The Father of the boy went to the Catskill Community Board on Facebook, and put the word out about the missing Dinosaur, and even offered a $50 Reward!
Now here is where the story gets interesting, right away the story was sent out to people all over Catskill. Some people contacted friends who worked at Walmart, some went down to Walmart and started looking for themselves, forming a small "Rescue of Rexy" search party. Some people looked up the Dinosaur online, and offered to buy a replacement for the boy.
As I read the post and the comments on the post, All I could think of was "This is what the Internet is meant for". There is so much negativity and so many arguments every day online, but it's moments like this that bring a community together, and shows that when we put our "differences" aside for a little bit, we are all really good people!
Now I wish I could tell you all about Rexy's big adventure in the Catskill Walmart, and what exactly he got up to that night, during the Blizzard Of 2026, but all I know is that on Monday morning, Rexy was hanging out at the customer service register, waiting to go home and be rejoined with his human. The Father edited the post, and thanked everyone for their help. Then the comments for the post were turned off. I tried to find out more details, but then I realized it was not just a Happy ending, but it was a happy journey from start to finish. The only thing that really matters is, the Boy and the Dinosaur will go on many more adventures together.
Let's all try to keep in mind "things are always better, when we all remember we are in this together"
Till next time, I am your Bro LJ James and I will see you "Around the Mountain"
