MIDDLEBURGH - Several Middleburgh high school students were found with an empty air gun and illegal vapes last Thursday.
MCS Superintendent Mark Place released a letter to the community after the incident.
There were several students who were disciplined for being in possession of vapes, one student disciplined for being in possession of marijuana, and the one student disciplined for being in possession of the air gun, the Superintendent said.
The air gun was unloaded and no ammunition was found, so there was never any chance of anyone being injured, he added.
Officials are not sure whether the Sheriff's office filed charges as they did not share that with the district; however, an appearance ticket was issued.
"After a report of a marijuana odor in a boys’ restroom, our administrative team investigated and identified several students in possession of vape devices. In addition, one student was found with marijuana, and another was found with an unloaded air gun," Mr. Place wrote.
"In keeping with our established protocols, we contacted the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Department. We are continuing to work in partnership with them as we follow up on this situation. All students involved will be disciplined in accordance with our district’s Code of Conduct.
"I want to thank our staff for responding quickly and appropriately to ensure the safety of our school community. Situations like this are never easy, but our shared commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our students remains strong."
If anyone has a question or concerns, they should reach out to the Superintendent's office.
