This day blooms in its own wild way, offering its colors to anyone willing to pause and see it.  As the weather finally begins to brighten, it’s the perfect moment to step outside and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. Cobleskill and Richmondville are full of life this season, and our community has plenty happening for anyone eager to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

SUNY Cobleskill will host its Annual Plant Sale on May 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the campus greenhouse, offering vegetables, annuals, herbs, perennials, and houseplants. Visitors can also stop by the Vendor Fair at the Carriage House Café and General Store. In Middleburgh, The 

Joshua Project’s Spring Arts & Craft Sale will take place the same day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church Hall, featuring artisans, crafters, grilled food, popcorn, and refreshments, with parking available on Chestnut Lane.

For local families, the Schoharie County Soccer Club will hold its Summer Rec Soccer program from July 6 through 31, with two to three sessions per week beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the C-R Soccer Fields. Children ages 4 to 16 are welcome, and registration is open until June 1 by contacting Vicky Kleinberger at scsoccerclub25@gmail.com

Teen Town will also be hosting a community clean-up day on May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon, inviting volunteers to bring rakes, shovels, and gloves to help prepare the space for summer fun.

The Cobleskill-Richmondville FFA will welcome the community to its annual Farm Fest on May 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CRCS High School. Families can enjoy a petting zoo, plant sale, photo booth, touch-a-tractor experience, and basket raffles sponsored by the CR Friends of FFA, along with a Brooks’s Chicken BBQ. 

The Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking mixer at the Bull’s Head Inn on April 30 at 5:30 p.m., with additional mixers planned for the last Thursday of each month.

The Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad will host a community crockpot dinner on May 29 beginning at 3 p.m., serving food until it’s gone—a simple and neighborly way to support the volunteers who keep our community safe. 

Richmondville Days will return June 5, 6, and 7 with the theme “Let Freedom Ring.” Vendor forms are available by contacting Jen at 607-427-9224, and parade entry forms can be requested at mbrumaghim@yahoo.com.

The Richmondville Veterans Banner Program is accepting applications until May 1 for families wishing to honor loved ones for their military service. Banners cost $75, and applications are available at the Village Office and the Bank of Richmondville. Questions may be directed to Lisa Crapser at 518-231-3594. The program is sponsored by Ralph Sperbeck American Legion Post 249 along with local veterans and community members.

Local government meetings are also scheduled throughout the month. The Town of Cobleskill will meet on May 11 at 7 p.m. at the Cobleskill Fire Department, while the Town of Richmondville will meet on May 12 at 6 p.m., including a public hearing regarding a special use permit for personal livestock at 988 Beards Hollow Road. The Village of Cobleskill will hold its meeting on May 19 at 5 p.m. at the Cobleskill Fire Department, and the Village of Richmondville will meet on May 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Office. A public hearing for the Village of Richmondville on the tentative 2026–2027 budget will take place on April 14 at 6 p.m. at the Richmondville Firehouse.

CRCS Boys Varsity baseball is on fire right now. In just one week, they powered past Middleburgh 19–2, beat OESJ 14–3, rolled over Fort Plain–Canajoharie 11–1, and finished with a strong 6–0 win against Schoharie. Four games, four big wins — the boys are playing like a team that knows exactly who they are and what they’re capable of.

The Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary has announced its new officers for 2026–2027: President Tara Salvato, 1st Vice President Nichole Slater, 2nd Vice President Cheryl Whittaker, Secretary Vicki Cooper, Assistant Secretary Sandy Slater, Treasurer Tina Ward, and Assistant Treasurer Kim Kimball. Congratulations to all — a great team ready to lead the year ahead.
