MARGARETVILLE — The Margaretville Village Board adopted the 2026/2027 budget of $665,326. The budget is a $16,221 increase over 2025/2026 and exceeds the allowable 2.8% tax cap by 3.73%. The budget accounts for $450,921 to be raised by taxes.
The budget was adopted following two public hearings to override the tax cap and present the budget.
Diane Galusha thanked the board for its support of the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown.
Following the public hearings, the board held an organizational meeting, during which trustees David Budin and Jeffery Warren were sworn in after being reelected in March.
Budin was appointed deputy mayor. Timothy Roe will begin duties as Code Enforcement Officer on April 13th, and Zachary Haverly was appointed his deputy. Tanya Hynes was appointed health officer. John Hubbell will serve as Board of Health president with Iris Mead as secretary.
Other appointments include: Verna Dietrich as dog control officer; John Paul Beers as public works superintendent; Robert McKertich as village attorney; Connie Jeffers to the zoning board of appeals; Noreen La Bonte as clerk and registrar of vital statistics; and Beth Bush as treasurer and tax collector.
The Board of Trustees will also serve as the Board of Water Commissioners. Mayor John Hubbell and La Bonte were appointed to the Workplace Violence Contract. Hubbell and Trustee Sarah Hubbell were appointed to the Emergency Management Team.
The official newspaper is the Mountain Eagle. Official depositories are NBT Bank and Delaware National Bank of Delhi.
Monthly meetings will continue to be scheduled on the third Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m., with as-needed workshops on the first Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. Planning Board meetings are scheduled on the last Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are planned for the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled Tuesday, April 21, at 5 p.m.
